Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 909617  Size: SH
  1. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  3. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  4. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  5. Remove the thermostat bypass pipe from the engine front cover. Refer to Thermostat Bypass Pipes Replacement .
  6. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the engine front cover. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement .
  7. Remove the power steering pump from the engine. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .
  8. Remove the engine front cover bolts (540, 541, and 545).
  9. Remove the engine front cover.

  11. Remove the engine front cover gasket.
  12. Remove the drive belt shield bolt and the drive belt shield, if replacing the engine front cover.
  13. Remove the water pump, if replacing the engine front cover. Refer to Water Pump Replacement .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 61819  Size: SH
  1. Install the water pump, if the engine front cover was replaced. Refer to Water Pump Replacement .
  2. Install the engine front cover gasket.
  3. Apply sealer to both sides of the lower tabs of the engine front cover gasket. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the correct part number. Apply the sealer no less than 5.0 mm (0.20 in) wide.

  4. Object Number: 1526763  Size: SH
  5. Install the engine front cover.
  6. Apply sealer to the bolts in the locations pointed out in the graphic. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the correct part number.
  7. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 909617  Size: SH
  8. Install the engine front cover bolts (545).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  10. Install the engine front cover bolts (540, 541).
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).

  12. Install the power steering pump to the engine. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .
  13. Install the radiator outlet hose to the engine front cover. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement .
  14. Install the thermostat bypass pipe to the engine front cover. Refer to Thermostat Bypass Pipes Replacement .
  15. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  16. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  17. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
