Power Steering Pump Replacement LY7

Removal Procedure

  1. Turn the steering wheel in order to move the front of the right wheel to the outboard most position in order to allow clearance to remove the power steering pump.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the front right wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Remove the accessory drive belt from the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).
  5. Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  6. Remove the right front drive shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  7. Disconnect the power steering pump inlet hose from the power steering pump.
  8. Disconnect the power steering pressure pipe/hose from the power steering pump.

  10. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts.
  11. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.
  12. Cap off the power steering pump and hoses in order to prevent contamination.
  13. Remove the power steering pulley from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering pulley to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .
  2. Uncap off the power steering pump and hoses .
  3. Position the power steering pump to the vehicle.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the power steering pump mounting bolts. HAND TIGHTEN ONLY.
  6. Install the side power steering mounting bolt (3).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the side power steering mounting bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  8. Install the rear power steering mounting bolt (2).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the rear power steering mount bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  10. Connect the power steering pressure pipe/hose to the power steering pump.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering pressure pipe/hose fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  12. Connect the power steering reservoir inlet hose to the power steering pump.
  13. Install the right front drive shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  14. Install the right engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  15. Install the accessory drive belt to the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).
  16. Install the front right wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  19. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .

Tools Required

    • J 25033-C Power Steering Pulley Installer
    • J 25034-C Power Steering Pulley Remover

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement for the 3.5L engine.
  2. Remove the intake manifold Cover. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement for the 3.5L engine.
  3. Fill and bleed the power steering system after the repair has been completed. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Bolt, Power Steering Pump (Qty: 3)

Tip
Use an appropriate tool to remove the power steering fluid from the reservoir before removing the hoses from the pump.

Tighten
34 N·m (25 lb ft)

Fitting, Power Steering High Pressure Hose

Tighten
27 N·m (20 lb ft)

Clamp, Power Steering Return Hose (at pump)

Tip
Position the clamp rearward to remove the hose from the pump.

Pump, Power Steering

Tip

  1. Use the J 25034-C to remove the power steering pump pulley from the pump.
  2. Use the J 25033-C to install the power steering pump pulley to the pump.
