Clutch Master Cylinder Replacement CTS

Removal Procedure

Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Remove the driver side instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  2. Disconnect the clutch pedal position switch electrical connector.

  3. Object Number: 802760  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal pin.

  5. Object Number: 785889  Size: SH
  6. Remove the clutch fluid reservoir retaining bolt.
  7. Remove the clutch fluid reservoir from the fender reinforcement.
  8. Important: It is not necessary to drain the coolant or disconnect the coolant lines from the surge tank.

  9. Remove the coolant surge tank mounting bolts and position the coolant surge tank out of the way. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement .

  10. Object Number: 785890  Size: SH

    Important: Install a rubber cap over the exposed hose fitting in order to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  11. Disconnect the clutch hydraulic hose. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Hose/Pipe Replacement .

  12. Object Number: 802898  Size: SH
  13. Rotate the clutch master cylinder clockwise 1/8 turn.
  14. Remove the clutch master cylinder from the cowl.
  15. Remove the clutch pedal position switch from the clutch master cylinder. Refer to Clutch Pedal Position Switch Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the clutch pedal position switch to the clutch master cylinder. Refer to Clutch Pedal Position Switch Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 802898  Size: SH
  3. With the clutch fluid reservoir connection at the 2 o'clock position insert the clutch master cylinder into the cowl.
  4. Align the keys of the clutch master cylinder housing with the tabs on the clutch pedal bracket.
  5. Rotate the clutch master cylinder counter clockwise approximately 1/8 turn until fully seated. The clutch fluid reservoir hose connection will be at the vertical 12 o'clock position when the clutch master cylinder is properly installed.

  7. Connect the clutch hydraulic hose. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Hose/Pipe Replacement .
  8. Install the coolant surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement .

  9. Object Number: 785889  Size: SH
  10. Install the clutch fluid reservoir to the fender reinforcement.
  11. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  12. Install the clutch fluid reservoir bolt.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  14. Position the clutch master cylinder push rod to the clutch pedal pin.
  15. Push the clutch master cylinder push rod onto the clutch pedal pin to secure.
  16. Connect the clutch pedal position switch electrical connector.
  17. Install the driver side instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  18. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding .

Clutch Master Cylinder Replacement CTS-V

Removal Procedure

Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Remove the driver side instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  2. Disconnect the clutch pedal position switch electrical connector.

  3. Object Number: 802760  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal pin.

  5. Object Number: 785889  Size: SH
  6. Remove the clutch fluid reservoir retaining bolt.
  7. Remove the clutch fluid reservoir from the fender reinforcement.
  8. Important: It is not necessary to drain the coolant or disconnect the coolant lines from the surge tank.

  9. Remove the coolant surge tank mounting bolts and position the coolant surge tank out of the way. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement .

  10. Object Number: 1447467  Size: SH

    Important: Install a rubber cap over the exposed hose fitting in order to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  11. Remove the spring retainer and disconnect the clutch hydraulic hose. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Hose/Pipe Replacement .

  12. Object Number: 802898  Size: SH
  13. Rotate the clutch master cylinder clockwise 1/8 turn.
  14. Remove the clutch master cylinder from the cowl.
  15. Remove the clutch pedal position switch from the clutch master cylinder. Refer to Clutch Pedal Position Switch Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the clutch pedal position switch to the clutch master cylinder. Refer to Clutch Pedal Position Switch Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 802898  Size: SH
  3. With the clutch fluid reservoir connection at the 2  o'clock position insert the clutch master cylinder into the cowl.
  4. Align the keys of the clutch master cylinder housing with the tabs on the clutch pedal bracket.
  5. Rotate the clutch master cylinder counter clockwise approximately 1/8 turn until fully seated. The clutch fluid reservoir hose connection will be at the vertical 12 o'clock position when the clutch master cylinder is properly installed.

  6. Object Number: 1447467  Size: SH
  7. Connect the clutch hydraulic hose and install the spring retainer. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Hose/Pipe Replacement .
  8. Install the coolant surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement .

  9. Object Number: 785889  Size: SH
  10. Install the clutch fluid reservoir to the fender reinforcement.
  11. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  12. Install the clutch fluid reservoir bolt.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  14. Position the clutch master cylinder push rod to the clutch pedal pin.
  15. Push the clutch master cylinder push rod onto the clutch pedal pin to secure.
  16. Connect the clutch pedal position switch electrical connector.
  17. Install the driver side instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  18. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding .
