Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
.
- Remove the rear wheel hub and bearing assembly. Refer to
Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement
.
- Rotate the park brake adjuster nut until the bolt is in the closed position.
- Remove the park brake shoe hold down spring.
- Remove the park brake shoe assembly (1) by grasping the shoe and spreading slightly while pulling the
shoe from the actuator assembly.
- Using a flat-bladed tools remove the adjusting nut (10).
- Using a flat-bladed tool remove the tappet (2).
- Remove the adjustment pawl (9).
- Move the hand brake lever (5) to the apply position and remove the hand brake pushrod (4).
- Pull the hand brake out and remove.
- Using a flat-bladed tool, move the actuator retaining tab outward and remove the abutment plate (3) from the dust shield (8).
- Remove the dust cover.
Installation Procedure
- Apply a small amount silicone grease to positions (1, 2) use GM P/N 18010909 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent.
Do not apply grease to the bolt threads (3).
- Install the dust cover (6) to the abutment plate (3).
- Using a flat-bladed tool, move the actuator retaining tab outward and Install the abutment plate (3) to the dust shield (8).
Ensure that the abutment plate (3) is seated and secure.
- Install the hand brake lever (5) to the abutment plate.
- Install the adjustment pawl (9) to the abutment plate.
- Install the hand brake pushrod (4) to the abutment plate.
- Install the tappet (2) to the abutment plate.
- Install the adjusting nut (10) to the abutment plate.
- Install the park brake shoe assembly by grasping the shoe and spreading slightly while pulling the shoe over the actuator assembly.
- Install the park brake shoe hold down spring.
- Adjust the park brake. Refer to
Park Brake Adjustment
.
- Install the rear wheel hub and bearing assembly. Refer to
Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement
.
- Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
.
- Lower the vehicle.
