Parking Brake Actuator Replacement J55

Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

  4. Object Number: 106224  Size: SH
  5. Pull down on the park brake cable near the park brake connector (1).
  6. Disconnect the left rear park brake cable (2) from the rear equalizer (1).
  7. Disconnect the right rear park brake cable (5) from the intermediate park brake cable (3).
  8. Remove the rear park brake cable from the park brake actuator lever.
  9. Remove the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement.
  10. Remove the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement.
  11. Remove the actuator lever from the backing plate.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the actuator lever to the backing plate.
  2. Install the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement.
  3. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment.
  4. Install the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement.
  5. Install the rear park brake cable to the park brake actuator lever.

  6. Object Number: 106224  Size: SH
  7. Connect the left rear park brake cable (2) to the rear equalizer (1).
  8. Connect the right rear park brake cable (5) to the intermediate park brake cable (3).
  9. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  10. Remove the safety stands.
  11. Lower vehicle.
