Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement FE1 and FE3

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle on a suitable hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tires and the wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the rear suspension support assembly. Refer to Support Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 333143  Size: SH
  5. Remove the automatic level control height sensor link from the control arm.
  6. Disconnect the ABS electrical connector.

  7. Object Number: 561499  Size: SH
  8. Remove the stabilizer shaft link bolt.
  9. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulators and spacer.
  10. Remove the hub and bearing, if necessary. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .

  11. Object Number: 105029  Size: SH
  12. Remove the nuts and the bolts securing the control arm to the rear suspension support assembly.
  13. Remove the lower control arm.

Installation Procedure

    Important: The control arm nuts should be tightened with the vehicle unsupported and resting on the wheels at the normal trim height.

  1. Install the lower control arm to the rear suspension support assembly.

  2. Object Number: 105034  Size: SH
  3. Install the wheel bearing and hub if necessary. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 561499  Size: SH
  5. Connect the ABS electrical connector.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install stabilizer shaft link bolt, spacer, insulator and nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the stabilizer shaft link nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  9. Install the automatic level control height sensor link to the left lower control arm.
  10. Install the rear suspension support assembly. Refer to Support Replacement .
  11. To obtain trim height, raise the control arm until the spindle face is parallel to the ground.
  12. Tighten the control arm nuts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the control arm nuts to 106 N·m (78 lb ft).

  14. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  15. Lower the vehicle.

Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement FE7

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tires and the wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  3. Object Number: 333143  Size: SH
  4. Remove the electronic level control height sensor link from the control arm.
  5. Disconnect the ABS electrical connector.

  6. Object Number: 561499  Size: SH
  7. Remove the stabilizer link bolt.
  8. Remove the hub and bearing, if necessary. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .

  9. Object Number: 475482  Size: SH
  10. Remove the support bracket bolts (1).

  11. Object Number: 474758  Size: SH
  12. Remove the nuts and bolts securing the control arm to the rear suspension support assembly.
  13. Remove the control arm.

Installation Procedure

    Important: The control arm nuts should be tightened with the vehicle unsupported and resting on the wheels at the normal trim height.

  1. Install the control arm to the rear suspension support assembly.
  2. Install the hub and bearing if necessary. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement
  3. .

  4. Connect the ABS electrical connector.

  7. Tighten
    Tighten the new stabilizer link bolt nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  8. Install the electronic level control height sensor link on the left control arm.

  9. Object Number: 475482  Size: SH
  10. Install the support bracket bolts (1).
  11. Lower the vehicle to obtain trim height.
  12. Tighten the control arm nuts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the control arm nuts to 149 N·m (110 lb ft).

  14. Lower the vehicle.
