Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle Manual Tilt, Column Shift


    Object Number: 588314  Size: SH
  1. If necessary, install the steering column closeout trim cover to the upper trim cover.

  2. Object Number: 603845  Size: SH
  3. Install the upper trim cover (1).
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install 1 pan head tapping screw (2) to the upper trim cover (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the pan head tapping screw to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

    Important: The shift lever seal must seat in the trim cover.

  7. Install the lower trim cover (2) onto the steering column.
  8. Attach the steering column closeout trim cover (1) to the lower trim cover (2).
  9. Install the 2 pan head tapping screws (3) to the lower trim cover (2).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the pan head tapping screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  11. Install the necessary wire harness straps.
  12. Install the steering column into the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  13. Install the steering wheel onto the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  14. Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.

Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle Power Tilt/Telescope-Column Shift

  1. If necessary, install the steering column closeout trim cover to the upper trim cover.

  2. Object Number: 588304  Size: SH
  3. Install the upper trim cover (1).
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install 1 pan head tapping screw (2) to the upper trim cover (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

    Important: The shift lever seal must seat in the trim cover.

  7. If necessary pop the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly (3) into the lower trim cover (2).
  8. Install the lower trim cover (2) onto the steering column.
  9. Attach the steering column closeout trim cover (1) to the lower trim cover (2).
  10. Install the 2 pan head tapping screws (4) to the lower trim cover (2).
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

    Caution: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Coil Caution in the Preface section.

  12. Connect the connector of the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly into the telescope module at the base of the column.
  13. Install the necessary wire harness straps.
  14. Install the steering column into the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  15. Install the steering wheel onto the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  16. Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.

Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle Power Tilt and Telescope, Floor Shift

  1. If necessary, install the steering column closeout trim cover to the upper trim cover.

  2. Object Number: 626475  Size: SH
  3. Install the upper trim cover (1).
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install 1 pan head tapping screw (2) to the upper trim cover (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  7. If necessary push the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly (3) into the lower trim cover (2).
  8. Install the lower trim cover (2) onto the steering column.
  9. Attach the steering column closeout trim cover (1) to the lower trim cover (2).
  10. Install the 2 pan head tapping screws (4) to the lower trim cover (2).
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

    Caution: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Coil Caution in the Preface section.

  12. Connect the connector of the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly into the telescope module at the base of the column.
  13. Install the necessary wire harness straps.
  14. Install the steering column into the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  15. Install the steering wheel onto the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  16. Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
