Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the inflatable
restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Remove the steering wheel from the column. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement
.
- Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
.
- Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to
Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle
.
- To remove the telescope drive motor assembly (1) do the
following steps:
5.1. | Disconnect the connectors of the telescope drive motor assembly (1). |
5.2. | Remove the 2 TORX® head screws (2). |
5.3. | Remove the telescope drive motor assembly (1). |
5.4. | Pull off the potentiometer housing (3). |
- To remove the telescope
cable assembly do the following steps:
6.1. | With locking pliers squeeze the black end of the telescope cable
assembly with the spring cable to remove from the telescope drive motor assembly. |
6.2. | With locking pliers squeeze the white end of the telescope cable
assembly to remove from the steering column. |
