    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering wheel from the column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  3. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  4. Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle .
  5. To remove the tilt drive motor assembly (2) do the following steps:
  6. 5.1. Disconnect the connectors of the tilt drive motor assembly (2).
    5.2. Remove the 2 TORX® head screws (3).
    5.3. Remove the tilt drive motor assembly (2).
    5.4. Pull off the potentiometer housing (1).

  7. To remove the tilt cable assembly do the following steps:
  8. 6.1. With locking pliers squeeze the white end of the tilt cable assembly to remove from the tilt drive motor assembly.
    6.2. The black end is not locked.
    6.3. Pull the black end to separate the tilt cable assembly from the steering column.
