Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle Power Tilt\\Telescope-Column Shift
- Check the steering column
for accident damage.
- Remove the necessary wire straps from the wire harness assembly.
- Disconnect the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly
connector from the telescope module at the base of the column.
- Gently pry the steering
column closeout trim cover (1) from the lower trim cover (2).
- Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (4) from the
lower trim cover (2).
- Remove the lower trim cover (2) with the power tilt and
telescope toggle switch assembly (3) still attached to the trim cover.
- If necessary, pop the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly (3)
out from the lower trim cover (2).
- Remove 1 pan head
tapping screw (2) from the upper trim cover (1).
- Remove the upper trim cover (1) with the steering column
closeout trim cover (3) still attached.
- If necessary, remove the
steering column closeout trim cover from the upper trim cover.

Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the inflatable restraint
steering wheel module coil. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Remove the steering wheel from the column. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement
.
- Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
.
- Remove the necessary wire straps from the wire harness assembly.
- Disconnect the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly
connector from the telescope module at the base of the column.
- Gently pry the steering
column closeout trim cover (1) from the lower trim cover (2).
- Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (4) from the
lower trim cover (2).
- Remove the lower trim cover (2) with the power tilt and
telescope toggle switch assembly (3) still attached to the trim cover.
- If necessary, push the power tilt and telescope toggle switch
assembly (3) out from the lower trim cover (2).
- Remove 1 pan head
tapping screw (2) from the upper trim cover (1).
- Remove the upper trim cover (1) with the steering column
closeout trim cover (3) still attached.
- If necessary, remove the
steering column closeout trim cover from the upper trim cover.

column closeout trim cover (1) from the lower trim cover (2).
- Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (3) from the
lower trim cover (2).
- Remove the lower trim cover (2).
- Remove 1 pan head
tapping screw (2) from the upper trim cover (1).
- Remove the upper trim cover (1) with the steering column
closeout trim cover (3) still attached.
- If necessary, remove the
steering column closeout trim cover from the upper trim cover.
