Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle Power Tilt\\Telescope-Column Shift


    Object Number: 588290  Size: SH
  1. Check the steering column for accident damage.
  2. Remove the necessary wire straps from the wire harness assembly.
  3. Disconnect the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly connector from the telescope module at the base of the column.

  4. Object Number: 588300  Size: SH
  5. Gently pry the steering column closeout trim cover (1) from the lower trim cover (2).
  6. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (4) from the lower trim cover (2).
  7. Remove the lower trim cover (2) with the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly (3) still attached to the trim cover.
  8. If necessary, pop the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly (3) out from the lower trim cover (2).

  9. Object Number: 588304  Size: SH
  10. Remove 1 pan head tapping screw (2) from the upper trim cover (1).
  11. Remove the upper trim cover (1) with the steering column closeout trim cover (3) still attached.

  12. Object Number: 588314  Size: SH
  13. If necessary, remove the steering column closeout trim cover from the upper trim cover.

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering wheel from the column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  3. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  4. Remove the necessary wire straps from the wire harness assembly.
  5. Disconnect the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly connector from the telescope module at the base of the column.

  6. Object Number: 626474  Size: SH
  7. Gently pry the steering column closeout trim cover (1) from the lower trim cover (2).
  8. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (4) from the lower trim cover (2).
  9. Remove the lower trim cover (2) with the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly (3) still attached to the trim cover.
  10. If necessary, push the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly (3) out from the lower trim cover (2).

  12. Remove 1 pan head tapping screw (2) from the upper trim cover (1).
  13. Remove the upper trim cover (1) with the steering column closeout trim cover (3) still attached.

  14. Object Number: 588314  Size: SH
  15. If necessary, remove the steering column closeout trim cover from the upper trim cover.

  6. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (3) from the lower trim cover (2).
  7. Remove the lower trim cover (2).

  8. Object Number: 603845  Size: SH
  9. Remove 1 pan head tapping screw (2) from the upper trim cover (1).
  10. Remove the upper trim cover (1) with the steering column closeout trim cover (3) still attached.

  11. Object Number: 588314  Size: SH
  12. If necessary, remove the steering column closeout trim cover from the upper trim cover.

  10. Remove the upper trim cover (1) with the steering column closeout trim cover (3) still attached.

  12. If necessary, remove the steering column closeout trim cover from the upper trim cover.
