DIC Switches
DSPL MODE
Briefly pressing the DSPL MODE button will change the instrument panel cluster
(IPC) display.
• | Analog (UY9) -- The IPC display can be configured in one of the
following formats: |
- | IPC gages and digital speed display |
- | Digital speed display only |
• | Digital (U02) -- The fuel level and engine coolant temperature
displays turn on and off. |
ENG/MET
Briefly pressing the ENG/MET button will change IPC and the driver information
center (DIC) displays between English and metric units.
INFO (Up and Down)
The INFO button consists of 2 positions:
• | INFO Up -- Briefly pressing the top of the INFO button will scroll
down to the next DIC display parameter. |
• | INFO Down -- Briefly pressing the bottom of the INFO button will
scroll up to the next DIC display parameter. |
INFO RESET
Briefly pressing the INFO RESET button will acknowledge the currently displayed
DIC message or reset the currently displayed DIC parameter.
ON/OFF
The ON/OFF button is used for the following functions:
• | Feature Programming -- Briefly pressing the ON/OFF button will
turn the currently displayed parameter on or off. |
• | Timer -- Briefly pressing the ON/OFF button will start or stop
the timer. |
TRIP (RESET and A/B)
The TRIP button consists of 2 positions:
• | TRIP RESET -- Briefly pressing the top of the TRIP button will
reset the displayed trip odometer to zero. |
• | TRIP A/B -- Briefly pressing the bottom of the TRIP button will
change the display of the trip odometer between trip A and trip B. |

Vehicle Information Display
The vehicle information display parameters are available to the driver when
the ignition is in the RUN position. The driver navigates through the various parameters
displayed on the driver information center (DIC) using the INFO Up and INFO Down
buttons. Some parameters can be reset by briefly pressing the INFO RESET button.
Some parameters require information from other modules. If the instrument
cluster (IPC) has not received data for a parameter when the time has come to display
the parameter, the IPC will blank the display on the DIC. If the IPC has determined
that a class 2 communication failure with one of the modules exists when
the time has come to display the parameter, the IPC will display dashes on the
DIC.
The vehicle information display parameters are displayed in the following
order:
- RANGE
- MPG AVG
- MPG INST
- FUEL USED
- AVG MPH
- TIMER
- BATTERY VOLTS
- TIRE PRESSURE
- TACHOMETER
- ENGINE OIL LIFE
- TRANS FLUID LIFE
- PHONE
- FEATURE PROGRAMMING
- Blank display
When the INFO Up button is pressed, the DIC will display the next parameter
on the list. When the INFO Down button is pressed, the DIC will display the previous
parameter on the list.
RANGE
The fuel range parameter is an available vehicle option. The fuel range is
the estimated distance that the vehicle can travel under the current fuel economy
and fuel level conditions. On vehicles equipped w/U02, the fuel range parameter
is part of the instrument panel cluster display and is not displayed on the DIC.
On vehicles equipped w/UY9, the fuel range parameter is displayed on the DIC
in one of the following formats:
The XXX represents the calculated range value. The units of the display will
correspond to the current IPC setting. The LOW RANGE message is displayed when the
range is calculated to be less than 64 km (40 miles). The fuel range
parameter cannot be reset by the driver.
MPG AVG
The average fuel economy is the distance travelled divided by the fuel used
since the parameter was last reset. On vehicles equipped w/U02, the average fuel
economy parameter is also part of the IPC display. The average fuel economy parameter
is displayed on the DIC in one of the following formats:
• | XX.X km/L AVG (Japan metric -- w/UY9) |
The XX.X represents the calculated average fuel economy value. The units of
the display will correspond to the current IPC setting. When MPG AVG is displayed
on the DIC, briefly pressing the INFO RESET button on the DIC will reset the average
fuel economy parameter. The DIC will display 0.0 for the English mode, 0.0 for the
Japan mode, and 99.9 for the metric mode when the parameter is reset.
MPG INST
The instantaneous fuel economy is the distance travelled divided by the fuel
used over a short period of time. The instantaneous fuel economy parameter is displayed
on the DIC in one of the following formats:
• | XX km/L INST (Japan metric -- w/UY9) |
The XX represents the calculated instantaneous fuel economy value. The units
of the display will correspond to the current IPC setting. The instantaneous fuel
economy parameter cannot be reset by the driver. The DIC will display 0 for the
English mode, 0 for the Japan mode, and 99 for the metric mode after the battery
has been disconnected and then reconnected.
FUEL USED
The fuel used parameter is the amount of fuel that has been used since the
parameter was last reset. The fuel used parameter is displayed on the DIC in one
of the following formats:
The XXX.X represents the calculated fuel used value. The units of the display
will correspond to the current IPC setting. The DIC will display a range from 0.0
to 99.9 GAL in the English mode and from 0.0 to 999.9 L for the metric
mode. When FUEL USED is displayed on the DIC, briefly pressing the INFO RESET button
on the DIC will reset the fuel used parameter.
AVG MPH
The average vehicle speed is the vehicle speed over the time since the parameter
was last reset. The average vehicle speed parameter is displayed on the DIC in
one of the following formats:
The XXX.X represents the calculated average vehicle speed value. The units
of the display will correspond to the current IPC. When AVG MPH is displayed on
the DIC, briefly pressing the INFO RESET button on the DIC will reset the average
vehicle speed parameter.
TIMER
The timer is used to record elapsed time. The timer is displayed on the DIC
in one of the following formats:
The first XX represents hours elapsed, the second XX represents minutes elapsed,
and the third XX presents seconds elapsed. ON or OFF is a fixed display on the DIC
and indicates whether the timer is currently running. The timer is started and stopped
by pressing the ON/OFF button on the DIC. The maximum range of the timer is 99 hours,
59 minutes, and 59 seconds. After the maximum range is reached, the
timer will reset and display all zeros (00:00:00). When TIMER is displayed on the
DIC, briefly pressing the INFO RESET button on the DIC will reset the timer.
BATTERY VOLTS
The battery voltage parameter is supplied by the dash integration module (DIM)
to the IPC via class 2 serial data messages. The voltage is displayed on the
DIC in one of the following formats:
• | XX.X BATTERY VOLTS HIGH |
The XX.X represents the supplied battery voltage value. The battery voltage
value will range between 0.0 and 17.0 volts. The battery voltage parameter
cannot be reset by the driver.
TIRE PRESSURE
The tire pressure parameter is an available vehicle option. The tire pressure
parameter is supplied by the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) to the IPC
via class 2 serial data messages. The tire pressure is displayed on the DIC
in one of the following formats:
The XX represents the supplied tire pressure value. The units of the display
will correspond to the current IPC setting. The tire pressure parameter cannot be
reset by the driver.
TACHOMETER
The tachometer is an available vehicle option. The tachometer displays the
engine speed, between 0 and 7000 RPM. The engine RPM is calculated by a discrete
signal sent to the IPC from the powertrain control module (PCM).
The tachometer is displayed as XXXX RPM TACHOMETER. The XXXX represents
the calculated engine RPM value. The tachometer cannot be reset by the driver.
ENGINE OIL LIFE
The engine oil life parameter is calculated by the PCM via class 2
serial data messages. The engine oil life is displayed as XXX% ENGINE OIL
LIFE. The XXX represents the calculated engine oil life value. The value will range
between 100% and 0%. Once the engine oil has been changed, perform the engine oil
monitor reset procedure. Refer to

TRANS FLUID LIFE
The transmission fluid life parameter is calculated by the PCM. The PCM provides
the information to the IPC via class 2 serial data messages. The transmission
fluid life is displayed as XXX% TRANS FLUID LIFE. The XXX represents the
calculated transmission fluid life value. The value will range between 100% and
0%. Once the transmission fluid has been changed, perform the transmission fluid
monitor reset procedure. Refer to

PHONE
An integrated cellular telephone is an available vehicle option. When equipped,
the cellular telephone displays are integrated into the IPC to allow the display
of phone status information on the DIC. The telephone displays on the DIC are intended
to resemble the information displayed on the cellular telephone handset, so the
driver can perform hands-free operation of the cellular telephone. The cellular
telephone provides the information to the IPC via class 2 serial data messages.
During phone digit dialing, the display will include up to 14 digits.
The digits will start at the far right of the display and scroll from right to
left as more digits are dialed. When the CLEAR button of the telephone handset is
pressed, the last digit pressed will be deleted from the telephone handset and the
DIC display.
Phone Alphanumeric Display
The display indicates a recall of a text string or of a phone number from
a memory location. The display will include the received signal strength indicator
display. The phone alphanumeric display is displayed as PHONE -- XX XXXXXXXXXX.
The 2 digit XX represents the number for the memory location in the cellular
telephone. The 10 digit XXXXXXXXX represents the text string or the phone
number stored in the memory location. A text string may contain letters and numbers.
Received Signal Strength Indicator
The display indicates the signal strength from the cell site that the cellular
telephone is currently detecting. The received signal strength indicator uses the
3 characters following PHONE on the DIC. Each character is capable of displaying
5 bars to represent signal strength. The DIC can display the signal strength
level within the range of 0 to 15. The following cellular telephone message displays
include the signal strength indicator:
• | Phone Incoming Caller ID |
PHONE -- CALL
The message indicates that an incoming call has been received by the cellular
telephone. The message can be displayed as a driver status message.
PHONE TIMER XX:XX
The display indicates the length of time a call is in progress or the length
of time that the running call timer is displayed. The phone call timer is displayed
as PHONE -- TIMER XX:XX. The first XX represents the minutes elapsed
and the second XX represents the seconds elapsed. The display can be displayed as
a driver status message.
The timer can be set to display the time for an individual call or set to
display the running call time. The programming function is performed through the
cellular telephone handset.
Phone Incoming Caller ID
The display indicates an incoming telephone call has been received by the
cellular telephone, and the caller's ID can be identified. The phone incoming caller
ID is displayed as PHONE -- XXXXXXXXXX. The 10 digit XXXXXXXXX represents
the text string or phone number of the incoming caller. A text string may contain
letters and numbers.
PHONE -- LOCKED
The message indicates that the cellular telephone is currently locked and
that an unlock code is required to use the cellular telephone. The message can be
displayed as a driver status message or in the vehicle information display.
PHONE -- NO HANDSET
The message indicates that the cellular telephone handset is physically disconnected.
The message can be displayed as a driver status message or in the vehicle information
display.
PHONE -- NO SERVICE
The message indicates that the cellular telephone service is not currently
available. The message can be displayed as a driver status message or in the vehicle
information display.
PHONE -- NOT PRESENT
The message indicates that the vehicle is configured to have a cellular telephone,
but the cellular telephone is not communicating with the IPC. Under the above conditions,
the message will be displayed when either the cellular telephone status is displayed
in the vehicle information display or the driver activates the cellular telephone
by pressing the PHONE or RECALL buttons on the steering wheel controls.
PHONE -- OFF
The message indicates that the cellular telephone power button is in the OFF
state. The message can be displayed as a driver status message or in the vehicle
information display.
PHONE -- ON
The message indicates that the cellular telephone power button is in the ON
state, but no other active conditions currently exist. The message can be displayed
as a driver status message or in the vehicle information display.
PHONE -- PAUSE
The message indicates that the cellular telephone is currently in pause status.
The message can be displayed as a driver status message.
PHONE -- ROAM A
The message indicates that the cellular telephone is currently in roam A
status. The message can be displayed as a driver status message or in the vehicle
information display.
PHONE -- ROAM B
The message indicates that the cellular telephone is currently in roam B
status. The message can be displayed as a driver status message or in the vehicle
information display.
PHONE -- VOL
The display indicates the level of the cellular telephone volume. The phone
handset displays PHONE which is followed by 3 blank characters on the DIC.
After the 3 blank characters, the phone handset displays VOL and a blank
character on the DIC. The following 7 characters are used to display the
level of the phone volume. Each character is capable of displaying 5 bars
to represent volume. The DIC can display the phone volume level within the range
of 0 to 35. The display can be displayed as a driver status message.
FEATURE PROGRAMMING
Personalization features may be set for the vehicle or for the driver. Vehicle
features do not change with each driver. Specific drivers are recognized by the
vehicle through the keyless entry transmitters, the memory buttons, or the DIC.
