Stabilizer Shaft Replacement FE7

Tools Required

J 24319-B Universal Steering Linkage Puller

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 474719  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the stabilizer links. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 474720  Size: SH
  5. Remove the stabilizer shaft bracket bolts.
  6. Remove the stabilizer shaft brackets.

  7. Object Number: 643351  Size: SH
  8. Remove the outer tie rod retaining nuts.
  9. Using J 24319-B disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle.
  10. Separate the ball joint. Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement .
  11. Turn the right steering knuckle to the left, and guide the stabilizer shaft half out the right side of the vehicle in an upward direction, then remove the stabilizer shaft out the bottom center of the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the stabilizer shaft to the vehicle.
  2. Install the ball joint to steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement .
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the ball joint retaining nut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the ball joint retaining nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft). Then tighten the nut an additional 190 degrees.

  6. Loosely install the right and left stabilizer shaft insulators, brackets and bolts.

  7. Object Number: 474719  Size: SH
  8. Loosely install the stabilizer link insulators, washers, nut, and bolt.
  9. Install the tie rod to steering knuckle.
  10. Tighten

        • Tighten the stabilizer bracket bolts to 67 N·m (49 lb ft).
        • Tighten the stabilizer link nut to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).
        • Tighten the tie rod end to knuckle nut to 30 N·m (22 lb in) plus an additional 200 degrees.
  11. Install the cotter pin in tie rod ends.
  12. Install the front wheels and tires. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in General Information.
  13. Lower the vehicle.

Stabilizer Shaft Replacement FE1 and FE3

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the front wheels and tires. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Remove the stabilizer shaft links. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .
  4. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulators. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Insulator Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 643351  Size: SH
  6. Remove the left outer tie rod end retaining nut.
  7. Using J 24319-B disconnect the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  8. Remove the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Rear Pipe Replacement .

  9. Object Number: 144023  Size: SH
  10. Turn the left strut completely to the left. Guide the stabilizer shaft out the left side of the vehicle between the axle and the lower control arm.
  11. Remove the stabilizer shaft (3) out from under the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the stabilizer shaft (3) to the vehicle.
  2. Install the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Rear Pipe Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 175689  Size: SH
  4. Loosely install the following components:
  5. 3.1. The left and right stabilizer shaft insulators
    3.2. The brackets
    3.3. The bolts
  6. Install the stabilizer shaft links. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 470669  Size: SH
  8. Install the left tie rod end (1) to the steering knuckle.
  9. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  10. Install the left outer tie rod retaining nut.
  11. Tighten

        • Tighten the stabilizer shaft inslulator bracket bolts to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).
        • Tighten the outer tie rod end to steering knuckle to 30 N·m (22 lb ft) + 200 degrees.
  12. Install the front wheels and tires. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  13. Lower the vehicle.
