Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Remove the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical-4.6L.
- Remove the radiator support sight shield. Refer to
Radiator Support Sight Shield Replacement
in Body
Front End.
- Remove the upper front mounting bolt from the generator.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the engine splash shield. Refer to
Engine Splash Shield Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Remove the bolts securing
the generator access cover to the front compartment lower panel.
- Remove the generator access cover.
- Disconnect the wiring
harness connector from the generator.
- Reposition the protective cover from the generator output BAT
terminal for access.
- Remove the generator output BAT terminal nut and disconnect the
positive lead from the generator.
- Loosen the rear generator bracket from the engine.
- Remove the top bolt.
- Remove the front lower mounting bolt.
- Remove the lower rear mounting bolt.
- Remove the upper rear mounting bolt.
- Secure the generator above the A/C compressor clutch pulley, in
order to remove the A/C compressor/generator front bracket.
- Remove the three bolts
securing A/C compressor/generator front bracket to the engine and A/C compressor.
- Remove the A/C compressor/generator front bracket.
- Rotate the generator and remove it from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Position and secure the generator above the A/C compressor clutch
pulley.
- Install the A/C compressor/generator
front bracket.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the bolts
securing A/C compressor/generator front bracket to the engine and A/C compressor.
Tighten
- Finger tighten all three mounting bolts.
- Tighten the upper engine mounting bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Tighten the lower engine mounting bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Tighten the A/C compressor mounting bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the generator.
- Install the bolts securing the generator to the engine
and A/C compressor.
Tighten
- Finger tighten all of the generator mounting bolts.
- Tighten the rear generator bracket bolts to engine to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Tighten the upper rear mounting bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Tighten the lower rear mounting bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Tighten the lower front mounting bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Connect the wiring harness connector to the generator.
- Connect the battery positive lead and install the generator output
BAT terminal nut.
Tighten
Tighten the generator output BAT terminal nut to 12.5 N·m (111 lb in).
- Press the protective cover on to the generator output BAT terminal.
- Position the generator
access cover to the front compartment lower panel.
- Install the bolts securing the generator access cover to the front
compartment lower panel.
Tighten
Tighten the generator access cover bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Install the engine splash shield. Refer to
Engine Splash Shield Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the upper front mounting bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the upper front bolt to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).
- Install the radiator support sight shield. Refer to
Radiator Support Sight Shield Replacement
in Body
Front End.
- Install the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical-4.6L.
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
