J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical 4.6 L.
  3. Remove the engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  4. Turn the wheels to the right.
  5. Remove the right fascia extension. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Extension Replacement in Bumpers.
  6. Disconnect the left engine oil cooler line at the oil filter adapter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Replacement in Engine Mechanical 4.6L.

  7. Object Number: 304954  Size: SH
  8. Remove the bolt that secures the compressor hose assembly (1).
  9. Disconnect the compressor electrical connector.

  10. Object Number: 304949  Size: SH
  11. Remove the compressor mounting bolts.
  12. Rotate the compressor, so that the compressor may exit through the wheelhouse extension opening.
  13. Remove the compressor.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the compressor through the wheelhouse extension.
  2. Install the rear mounting bolts.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the rear compressor mounting bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  6. Install the front compressor mounting bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (38 lb ft).

  8. Connect the compressor electrical connector.

  10. Connect the compressor hose assembly (1) to the compressor.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 30 N·m (20 lb ft).

  12. Connect the left engine oil cooler line at the oil filter adapter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Replacement in Engine Mechanical 4.6 L.
  13. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical 4.6 L.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  16. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400 .
  17. Install the fascia extension. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Extension Replacement in Bumpers.
  18. Install the engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
