Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Place the transmission in the PARK position.
  2. Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.

Did the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool command the trunk lid release relay on.

Did the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Step 4

  1. With a scan tool observe the trunk release parameter in the instrument cluster data list.
  2. Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the trunk release parameter change states?

Go to Step 11

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release switch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch and a good ground.

Does the rear compartment lid release?

Connect a fused jumper between the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch and the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the rear compartment lid release?

  1. Disconnect the trunk release relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the trunk release relay and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the trunk release relay and the control circuit of the trunk release relay.

Test the control circuit of the rear compartment lid release for an open or high resistance. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
