Removal Procedure

Important: The seat back frame is serviced as an assembly.

  1. The head restraint retainer guides (3) are serviced separately.
  2. Remove the bucket seat. Refer to Bucket Seat Replacement .

  3. Remove the seat back cover. Refer to Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement .

  5. Disengage the seat cushion cover by unhooking the J-channel from the seat frame in order to access the electrical harness.
  6. Cut the three tie straps securing the electrical harness (4) to the seat back frame.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connectors, if equipped with heated (KA1) or power lumbar seats (AL2).
  8. Remove the recliner hinge bolts (1).
  9. Pull upward in order to remove the seat back frame (2) from the seat back recliner hinge.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the seat back frame to the seat back recliner hinge.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the recliner hinge bolts (1).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the hinge bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Connect the electrical connectors, if equipped with heated (KA1) or power lumbar seats (AL2).
  6. Install three new tie straps in order to secure the electrical harness (4) to the seat back frame (2).
  7. Secure the seat cushion cover by hooking the J-channel to the seat frame.
  8. Install the head restraint retainer guides to the new seat back frame.
  9. Install the seat back cover and pad. Refer to Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement .
  10. With the aid of an assistant, install the seat. Refer to Bucket Seat Replacement .
  11. Reposition the seat.
