Schematic Reference: Power Window Schematics

DEFINITION: This test is to be used to diagnose a failure of only the passenger door window.

Did you perform the the Door Systems Diagnostic System Check?

Go to Step 2

Verify the fault is present.

Does the power window system operate as described in the Description and Operation?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to operate the passenger door window from the master switch on the driver door.

Did the passenger door window operate?

Go to Step 14

Go to Step 4

Attempt to operate the passenger door window from the passenger door window switch.

Did the passenger door window operate?

Go to Step 11

  1. Disconnect the passenger door window switch harness connector.
  2. Probe the master switch right front up signal circuit with a test lamp connected to a good ground.
  3. With the master switch, attempt to operate the passenger door window to the Up position.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

  1. Connect the test lamp between the master switch right front up signal circuit and the master switch right front down signal circuit of the harness connector.
  2. With the master switch, attempt to operate the passenger door window to both the Up and Down positions.

Did the test lamp illuminate for each press of the switch?

Go to Step 7

  1. Reconnect the passenger door window switch harness connector.
  2. Disconnect the passenger door window motor harness connector.
  3. Probe the window motor right front up circuit with a test lamp connected to a good ground.
  4. With the passenger door window switch, attempt to operate the passenger door window to the Up position.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

  1. Connect the test lamp between the window motor right front up circuit and the window motor right front down circuit of the harness connector.
  2. With the passenger door window switch, attempt to operate the passenger door window to both the Up and Down positions.

Did the test lamp illuminate for each press of the switch?

Go to Step 15

Test the window motor right front up circuit for an open or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 22

Test the window motor right front down circuit for an open or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the master switch right front up signal circuit and the master switch right front down signal circuit for shorts to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the master switch right front up signal circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the master switch right front down signal circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the battery positive voltage supply circuit of the passenger door window switch for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the circuit OK?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the passenger door power window motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the passenger door power window switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the driver door power window master switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the battery positive voltage supply circuit of the passenger door window switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the driver door power window master switch. Refer to Front Side Door Window Switch Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
