Turn the ignition ON.

Are the windshield washers OFF?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Disconnect the moisture sensor connector.

Do the windshield washers stop?

Go to Step 4

  1. Connect a test lamp from the windshield washer switch signal circuit terminal in the moisture sensor harness connector to ground.
  2. Turn the ignition ON.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Test the windshield washer switch signal circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Test the windshield wiper switch low signal circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the windshield washer pump control circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the windshield wiper motor module. Refer to Wiper Motor Cover Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 11

Replace the moisture sensor. Refer to Windshield Outside Moisture Sensor Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the inline harness connector C202.
  3. Remove the connector terminal row E from the steering column harness connector half.
  4. Connect the inline harness connector C202.
  5. Turn the ignition ON.

Are the windshield washers always on?

Go to Step 4

Test the windshield washer switch signal circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the windshield washer pump control circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
