Did you perform the Lighting Systems Diagnostic System Check?

Operate the courtesy lamps.

Do the courtesy lamps operate properly?

Go to Step 3

Go to Courtesy Lamps Inoperative

Open the rear compartment.

Does the rear compartment lamp operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 4

1. Disconnect the rear compartment lamp.
2. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 11

Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit and the trunk lamp control circuit of the rear compartment lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 6

1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release switch.
2. Connect a 10 amp fused jumper between the trunk lamp control circuit and the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 7

Test for an open or high resistance in the trunk lamp control circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 14

Go to Step 8

Test for an open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lamp. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair an open or high resistance in the battery positive voltage circuit of the rear compartment lamp. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Replace the rear compartment lamp. Refer to Rear Compartment Courtesy Lamp Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Replace the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Switch Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
