Circuit Description

The driver information center (DIC) switch is a multiplexed switch that functions as a DIC/Dimmer switch. The DIC switch is also used for the head-up display (HUD) if the vehicle is equipped with a HUD. The switch then functions as the HUD/DIC/Dimmer switch. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) only monitors the DIC switch inputs. The dimmer switch is monitored by the instrument panel module (IPM) and the HUD switch is monitored by the HUD module. The DIC switch is a momentary contact switch that connects a series of resistors. The IPC monitors the DIC switch signal circuit to determine the DIC switch inputs. Each switch state - INFO UP, INFO DOWN, INFO RESET, ENGLISH/METRIC, TRIP RESET - corresponds to a certain resistance value. The IPC determines the switch state by the voltage drop across the resistors. The IPC sets DTC B3567 when it detects a stuck DIC switch or when the DIC signal circuit is shorted to battery.

DTC Descriptors

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B3567 Driver Information Center (DIC) Select Switch Circuit

This vehicle has a DTC which includes DTC Symptoms. For more information on DTC symptoms, refer to DTC Symptom Description .

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is in ACCESSORY or RUN.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The IPC detects that the DIC switch is stuck.
    • The IPC detects that the DIC switch signal circuit is shorted to battery.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The IPC ignores the DIC switch inputs. The IPC sets DTC B3567.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The DTC becomes history when the fault is no longer present.
    • The IPC receives a clear code command from the scan tool.
    • A History DTC clears after 40 malfunction-free ignition cycles.

Diagnostic Aids

    • When the Info Up, Info Down, Info Reset, or English/Metric switch is stuck, only the Trip A/B switch functions correctly. When the Trip A/B switch is stuck, all other DIC switches function correctly.
    • Only the DIC signal circuit can be diagnosed as shorted to battery.
    • Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. Activate and release each of the driver information center (DIC) switches.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the following DIC switch parameters in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) Data List:
  5. • Information Down Switch
    • Information Up Switch
    • Information Reset Switch
    • Trip Reset Switch
    • English/Metric Switch

Does the scan tool display Active when each switch is pressed and Inactive when each switch is released?
