Special Tools

    • J 24402-A Glass Sealant Remover (Cold Knife)
    • J 39032 Stationary Glass Removal Tool
    • Use a urethane adhesive systems which meet GM Specification GM 3651G

Removal Procedure

    Warning: If a window is cracked but still intact, crisscross the window with masking tape in order to reduce the risk of damage or personal injury.

    Note: Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.

  1. Open the rear compartment lid in order to access the reveal molding (1).
  2. Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to Rear Seat Cushion Replacement.
  3. Remove the rear seat back. Refer to Rear Seat Back Replacement.
  4. Remove the rear sail trim panels. Refer to Sail Panel Replacement.
  5. Disconnect all of the rear window electrical connectors.
  6. Remove the headliner. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Replacement.
  7. Warning: If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into the passenger compartment and cause personal injury.

  8. Cover to protect the following parts from broken glass:
  9. • Upper dash pad
    • Defroster outlets and A/C outlets
    • Seats and carpeting
    • Rear shelf trim panel
    • Rear speaker

    Warning: When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce the chance of personal injury.

    Note: Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window.

  10. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window.
  11. • Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange.
    • The only suitable lubrication is clear water.
    • Use J 24402-A , J 39032 or equivalent in order to remove the window.

  12. With the aid of an assistant, use the suction cups in order to lift the rear window (2) from the opening.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the stationary window into the opening. Refer to Adhesive Installation of Stationary Windows.
  2. Connect all of the rear window electrical connectors.
  3. Install the headliner. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Replacement.
  4. Install the rear sail trim panels. Refer to Sail Panel Replacement.
  5. Install the rear seat back. Refer to Rear Seat Back Replacement.
  6. Install the rear seat cushion. Refer to Rear Seat Cushion Replacement.
  7. Cycle the rear compartment lid open and close in order to position the lower reveal molding under the rear compartment lid.
  8. Remove the double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
