Accelerator Pedal Replacement Domestic
Removal Procedure
- Remove the left instrument
panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the clip (2) from the pedal (3).
- Remove the plastic retainer from inside the pedal.
- Remove the accelerator control cable (1) from the accelerator
controls pedal by pulling straight out and up towards the top of the accelerator
controls pedal (3).
- Remove the accelerator controls pedal (3) from the brake and accelerator
controls pedal assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Install the accelerator
control pedal (3) to the brake and accelerator controls pedal assembly.
- Install the plastic retainer inside the accelerator controls pedal.
- Install the clip (2) onto the accelerator controls pedal (3).
- Install the accelerator control cable (1) to the pedal by pulling
the accelerator controls pedal straight out and down towards the top of the
accelerator control pedal.
Important: The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed
and wide open throttle.
- Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating
the accelerator controls pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator
controls pedal.
- Install the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument
Panel, Gages and Console.

Removal Procedure
- Remove the right closeout/insulator
panel replacement - IP lower. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side
.
- Remove the accelerator controls cable (1) from the accelerator
controls pedal (3).
- Remove the nuts (2) from the accelerator controls pedal
assembly.
- Remove the accelerator controls pedal assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Install the accelerator
controls pedal assembly.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the accelerator controls pedal
assembly nuts (2).
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
Important: The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed
and wide open throttle.
- Install the accelerator controls cable (1) to the pedal (3)
pedal.
- Install the closeout/insulator panel replacement - IP lower (right).
