Was the Wiper/Washer System Check performed?

  1. Remove wiper fuse 3 (WSW) and connect an ammeter (0-30 amp) across the fuse terminals.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
  3. Set the wiper switch to LO.
  4. Observe the lowest current draw while the wipers are running on dry glass (current draw will fluctuate).

Is the lowest current draw less than the specified value?

1.0 amps

Go to Step 3

Replace the wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Wiper/Washer System Check or Wiper/Washer System Check

Is lowest current more than the specified value?

6.5 amps

Go to Step 5

System OK

Replace the wiper blade elements and repeat the test.

Is the lowest current draw still more than the specified value?

6.5 amps

Go to Step 6

System OK

Disconnect the wiper transmission from the wiper motor crank arm and repeat the test.

Is the lowest current draw still more than the specified value?

6.5 amps

Replace the wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

The wiper transmission is binding. Repair or replace the wiper transmission as required. Refer to Windshield Wiper Transmission Replacement .
