Circuit Description

The steering column module determines the tilt position of the steering column based on the following factors:

    • Inputs received from the tilt position sensor that is built into the telescope actuator
    • The telescoping actuator

The Steering column module supplies a 5-volt reference and ground to the tilt position sensor while also monitoring the column position form the telescope position signal circuit.

Conditions for Running the DTC

DTC B1327 is not set as current.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The DTC sets as current when the voltage at the steering column tilt motor signal is less than 4.8 volts for 2 seconds on the tilt circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The steering column module will not allow the affected motor to work during memory recall and/or easy exit operations. However, the motor will still operate for manual switch positioning.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • This DTC will clear from current status when the voltage is greater than 0.12 volts for 2 seconds.
    • Use a scan tool.

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Steering Wheel and Column

2

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. In order to measure the voltage at the steering column telescope motor signal circuit, backprobe the steering column telescope motor signal circuit using a DMM.

Is the voltage greater than the specified parameter?

0.12 volts

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 3

3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the tilt actuator harness connector from the steering column module.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the steering column telescope motor signal circuit on the module with a DMM that is connected to a good ground.

Does the DMM indicate the voltage is greater than the specified value?

4.8 volts
