J 24319-B Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 575833  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the outer tie rod end (1) retaining nut (2).

  4. Object Number: 297349  Size: SH
  5. Loosen the jam nut (2) on the inner tie rod end (1).

  6. Object Number: 643351  Size: SH
  7. Remove the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle using J 24319-B .

  8. Object Number: 297358  Size: SH
  9. Remove the outer tie rod end (3) from the inner tie rod end (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 297355  Size: SH
  1. Install the outer tie rod end (3) to the inner tie rod end (1). Do not tighten the jam nut (2).

  2. Object Number: 297628  Size: SH
  3. Connect the outer tie rod end (2) to the steering knuckle (1).

  4. Object Number: 575833  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the outer tie rod end retaining nut (2).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the outer tie rod end retaining nut to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  7. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Important: Be sure the rack and pinion boot is not twisted or puckered during toe adjustment.

  10. Adjust the toe alignment. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment in Wheel Alignment.
