Removal Procedure

    Caution: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM). Before applying power to the SDM, make sure that it is securely fastened with the arrow facing toward the front of the vehicle. Failure to observe the correct installation procedure could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the passenger seat. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket in Seats.
  3. Remove the passenger carpet retainer. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement in Interior Trim.

  4. Object Number: 291625  Size: SH
  5. Lift up the carpet and insulation in order to access the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM).

  6. Object Number: 142175  Size: SH
  7. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) (3) from the SDM harness connector (2).
  8. Disconnect the SDM harness connector (2) from the SDM (1).

  9. Object Number: 142173  Size: SH
  10. Remove the SDM (6) mounting bolts (1).
  11. Remove the SDM (6) from the floor (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 142173  Size: SH
  1. Remove any dirt, grease, or other impurities from the SDM mounting surface.
  2. Install the SDM (6) horizontally to the floor (2).
  3. Ensure the arrow on the SDM (6) points toward the front of the vehicle.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the SDM mounting bolts (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  7. Install the SDM harness connector (2) to the SDM (1).
  8. Install the CPA (3) to the SDM wiring harness connector (2).

  9. Object Number: 291625  Size: SH
  10. Install the carpet to the floor.
  11. Install the passenger carpet retainer. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement in Interior Trim.
  12. Install the passenger seat. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket in Seats.
  13. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  14. Important: The AIR BAG indicator may remain ON after the SDM has been replaced. DTC B1001 may set requiring the SDM part number to be set in multiple modules. If the indicator remains ON after enabling the SIR system, perform the diagnostic system check and follow the steps thoroughly to ensure that the SDM is set properly.

  15. Program the new SDM into the Dash Integration Module. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control Systems.
