Parking Brake Lever Pedal Assembly Replacement LHD

Tools Required

J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool

Removal Procedure

The automatic adjustment park brake pedal assembly and the front park brake cable are serviced as a unit. The front park brake cable has no threads and is not adjustable.

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 492729  Size: SH
  3. To ensure the park brake pedal is in the full returned position, pull forward on the emergency release lever.
  4. Pull down on the front park brake cable (3) to relieve tension on the park brake cable.
  5. Remove the park brake cable (3) from the cable connector (1).
  6. Using J 37043 remove the park brake cable retainer from the cable support bracket.

  8. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  9. Disable SIR zone (3) and (5). Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in Restraints.
  10. Remove left closeout/sound insulator panel to access the lever assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  11. Remove the left knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  12. Remove the foot rest pad from the carpet. Refer to Foot Rest Replacement in Interior Trim.
  13. Pull back the carpet to expose the park brake cable and lever assembly.
  14. Remove the grommet from the floor pan.

  16. Remove the park brake assembly mounting nuts (1, 2).
  17. Disconnect the electrical connector from the park brake warning lamp switch.
  18. Remove the park brake pedal assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the electrical connector to the park brake warning lamp switch.

  2. Object Number: 107329  Size: SH
  3. Install the park brake assembly to the mounting studs.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the park brake lever mounting nuts (1, 2).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the park brake pedal assembly mounting nuts to 24 N·m (18 lb  ft).

  7. Install the cable and grommet into the floor pan.

  9. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  10. Reconnect the front cable (3) to the cable connector (1).
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  13. If installing a new park brake pedal assembly, you must remove the park brake pedal and park brake cable tension set pin.
  14. To set the park brake cable tension rotate the tension release pin (1) 80 degrees and then pull down to remove.
  15. Apply the park brake pedal 3 full cycles to complete the tension set.
  16. Reposition the carpet.
  17. Install the foot rest pad to the carpet. Refer to Foot Rest Replacement in Interior Trim.
  18. Install the left knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  19. Install the left closeout/sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panels, Gages, and Console.
  20. Enable SIR zone (3) and (5). Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in Restraints.

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 106181  Size: SH
  3. Loosen the park brake cable at the adjuster (2).
  4. Using J 37043 remove the park brake cable retainer from the cable support.
  5. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  6. Object Number: 296112  Size: SH
  7. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in Restraints.
  8. Remove the right closeout/sound insulators. Refer to and Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  9. Remove the right knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  10. Remove the left closeout/sound insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  11. Remove the right foot rest pad from the carpet. Refer to Foot Rest Replacement in Interior Trim.
  12. Remove the floor console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  13. To gain access to the upper two mounting bolts, remove the air outlet duct. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Air Outlet Upper Duct Replacement - Right Side in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  14. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  15. Object Number: 658944  Size: SH
  16. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the park brake warning lamp switch.
  17. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the park brake release solenoid.

  18. Object Number: 296112  Size: SH
  19. Remove the park brake pedal assembly two upper mounting bolts.
  20. Remove the lower mounting bolt.
  21. Remove the park brake pedal assembly.
  22. Remove the park brake cable retaining nut.
  23. Disconnect the park brake cable from the park brake pedal assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the park brake cable to the park brake pedal assembly.
  2. Install the park brake cable retaining nut.
  3. Install the park brake pedal assembly to the mounting studs.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   5. Install the park brake pedal upper and lower mounting bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the park brake pedal assembly mounting nuts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  7. Connect the electrical connectors to the park brake warning lamp switch.
  8. Connect the electrical connector to the park brake release solenoid.
  9. Install the air outlet duct. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Air Outlet Upper Duct Replacement - Right Side in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  10. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  11. Install the floor console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  12. Install the right foot rest pad to the carpet. Refer to Foot Rest Replacement in Interior Trim.
  13. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  14. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Reposition the carpet.
  17. Install the right knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  18. Install the left closeout/sound insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  19. Install the right closeout/sound insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  20. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in Restraints.
