Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  3. Remove the accessory drive belts. Refer to Supercharger Belt Replacement , Water Pump and Generator Belt Replacement and Air Conditioning Compressor and Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement .
  4. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioners. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Supercharger , Water Pump and Generator Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement and Air Conditioning Compressor Belt Tensioner Replacement .
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulleys. Refer to Belt Idler Pulley Replacement - Supercharger and Belt Idler Pulley Replacement - Water Pump and Generator .
  6. Remove the water pump pulley. Refer to Water Pump Replacement .
  7. Remove the water outlet housing. Refer to Water Outlet Housing Replacement .
  8. Remove the radiator hose and the heater hose from the thermostat housing. position the hoses aside.
  9. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .

  11. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
  12. Remove the engine front cover.

  13. Object Number: 928304  Size: SH
  14. Remove and discard the engine front cover gasket.

  15. Object Number: 1674308  Size: SH
  16. Remove the oil pump drive to crankshaft balancer friction washer.
  17. Clean and inspect the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the oil pump drive to crankshaft balancer friction washer.

  2. Object Number: 928307  Size: SH
  3. Place a small amount of sealant at the split line of the upper and lower crankcases (1). Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the correct part number.

  4. Object Number: 928304  Size: SH
  5. Place the NEW engine front cover gasket over the crankcase dowel pins.

  6. Object Number: 1651531  Size: SH
  7. Place a small amount of sealant at the engine front cover gasket pad area located on top of the split line of the upper and lower crankcases (1). Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the correct part number.

  8. Object Number: 1651532  Size: SH
  9. Place the engine front cover in position on the crankcase.
  10. Apply the thread locking compound to the threads of the engine front cover bolts. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the correct part number.
  11. Install the engine front cover retaining bolts.
  12. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  13. Tighten the engine front cover bolts in the sequence shown.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the engine front cover bolts in proper sequence to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  15. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  16. Install the radiator hose and the heater hose to the thermostat housing.
  17. Install the water outlet housing. Refer to Water Outlet Housing Replacement .
  18. Install the water pump pulley. Refer to Water Pump Replacement .
  19. Install the accessory drive belt idler pulleys. Refer to Belt Idler Pulley Replacement - Supercharger and Belt Idler Pulley Replacement - Water Pump and Generator .
  20. Install the accessory drive belt tensioners. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Supercharger , Water Pump and Generator Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement and Air Conditioning Compressor Belt Tensioner Replacement .
  21. Install the accessory drive belts. Refer to Supercharger Belt Replacement , Water Pump and Generator Belt Replacement and Air Conditioning Compressor and Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement .
  22. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  23. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
