Removal Procedure

Notice: Hydraulic brake systems use two distinct and incompatible fluids. Power steering fluid is used in the hydraulic brake booster system. Brake fluid is used in the master cylinder and brake pipes. Use extreme care when selecting brake system fluids, or seal damage can result. Refer to General Information to select the correct fluid.

  1. Apply the parking brake.

  2. Object Number: 193406  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the reservoir hose from the booster.

  4. Object Number: 188305  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the power steering hoses from the booster.
  6. Important: Do not remove the brake pipes from the master cylinder.

  7. Remove the master cylinder nuts. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement .
  8. Support the master cylinder.
  9. Disconnect the pushrod from the brake pedal. Refer to Brake Pedal Replacement .

  11. Remove the hydraulic booster mounting nuts from the inside of the vehicle.
  12. Remove the booster assembly.
  13. Remove the gasket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the gasket.
  2. Install the booster assembly.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the booster mounting nuts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  6. Connect the pushrod to the brake pedal. Refer to Brake Pedal Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 179850  Size: SH
  8. Install the master cylinder.
  9. Install the master cylinder nuts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).


    Object Number: 188305  Size: SH
  11. Connect the power steering hoses to the booster.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the hose fittings to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  13. Connect the reservoir hose to the booster.
  14. Bleed the hydraulic brake booster. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding in Power Steering System.
  15. Release the parking brake.
