Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Left

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 173171  Size: SH
  1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.
  2. Remove the oil filler tube and bolt.

  3. Object Number: 246797  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.

  5. Object Number: 172995  Size: SH
  6. Remove the PCV valve hose assembly from the intake manifold and the valve rocker arm cover.
  7. Remove the rear spark plug wire retainer from the support.
  8. Remove the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Removal .
  9. Clean all sealing surfaces and the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the valve rocker arm cover and bolts. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation .

  2. Object Number: 172995  Size: SH
  3. Install the PCV valve hose assembly to the intake manifold and in the valve rocker arm cover.
  4. Install the rear spark plug wire retainer to the support.

  5. Object Number: 173171  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the oil filler tube and bolt.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
  9. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.

Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Right

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 173186  Size: SH
  1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.
  2. Disconnect the spark plug wires for the right side of the engine from the distributor cap. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the PCV tube from the valve rocker arm cover and the air cleaner outlet duct.

  4. Object Number: 363396  Size: SH
  5. Remove the engine wiring harness bracket from the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve stud.
  6. Move the engine wiring harness aside.
  7. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Removal .
  8. Clean all sealing surfaces and the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the right valve rocker arm cover and bolts. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation .

  2. Object Number: 363396  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the engine wiring harness bracket and nut to EVAP canister purge solenoid valve stud.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the engine wiring harness bracket nut to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  5. Install the PCV hose in the valve rocker arm cover and the air cleaner outlet duct.
  6. Connect the spark plug wires to the distributor cap. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  7. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.
