  1. Disconnect the suspect speaker.
  2. Connect a 1.5 volt battery across the cavities of the suspect speaker.

Is there a pop noise from the speaker?

Check if the vehicle is equipped with a sub-woofer amplifier.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC or the RUN position.
  2. Turn the radio ON.
  3. Tune the radio to a strong signal.
  4. Using the balance control on the radio, balance the radio signal between the left and the right rear speakers.

Is the left and right rear speakers inoperative or distorted?

Check for an open or a short in the following circuits between the radio and the rear speakers:

    • CKT 116 (YEL)
    • CKT 199 (BRN)

For the left side speakers.

    • CKT 46 (DK BLU)
    • CKT 115 (LT BLU)

For the right side speakers.

Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Did you find a short or open?

Repair the open or short in the following circuits between the radio, the rear speakers and the sub-woofer amplifier (if equipped):

    • CKT 116 (YEL)
    • CKT 199 (BRN)

For the left side speakers.

    • CKT 46 (DK BLU)
    • CKT 115 (LT BLU)

For the right side speakers.

Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Disconnect the sub-woofer amplifier.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC or the RUN position.
  3. Turn the radio ON.
  4. Tune the radio to a strong signal.

Are both the rear speakers inoperative or distorted?

Using the balance control on the radio, balance the radio signal between the left and right rear speakers.

Check for an open or a short in the following circuits between the sub-woofer speaker and the sub-woofer amplifier:

    • CKT 1794 (LT GRN/BLK)
    • CKT 346 (DK BLU/BLK)

For the left side speakers.

    • CKT 1795 (DK GRN)

For the right side speakers.

Repair the open or short in the following circuits between the sub-woofer speaker and the sub-woofer amplifier:

    • CKT 1794 (LT GRN/BLK)
    • CKT 346 (DK BLU/BLK)

For the left side speakers.

    • CKT 1795 (DK GRN)

For the right side speakers.

  2. Using a test lamp, backprobe CKT 43 (YEL) terminal A8 at the rear radio control module to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the radio C2 connector.
  2. Using a DMM test for voltage at CKT 1011 (LT GRN) cavity 13 connector C2.
  3. Test for voltage with the rear radio control module power button depressed and held.

Is voltage within specified value?

3.2 - 3.8 V

  1. Disconnect the rear radio control module.
  2. Using a DMM test CKT 1011 (LT GRN) for continuity.

Is there continuity?

  1. Connect a fused jumper from CKT 1011 (LT GRN) to the radio cavity 13 .
  2. Connect a DMM from cavity 12 at the radio to ground.

Is voltage present?

  2. Using a DMM test CKT 314 (PNK) for continuity.

Is there continuity?

  2. Disconnect the sub-woofer amplifier.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC or the RUN position.

    • CKT 46 (DK BLU)
    • CKT 115 (LT BLU)

For the right side speakers.
