Wheel Stud Replacement Prior to VIN 5B426447

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rear wheel bearing/hub/drum/studs assembly. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 1242004  Size: SH

    CAUTION:: If one stud is damaged, replace all the studs. A loose-running wheel may cause only one stud to break, but the other studs could have internal fatigue. Replacing only the broken stud and remounting the wheel may cause further damage and personal injury. If the stud holes in the wheels have become enlarged or distorted, replace the wheel.

    Important: Complete the removal and installation of 1 wheel stud before removing another wheel stud.

  3. Place the rear wheel bearing/hub/drum/studs assembly and a press plate on a hydraulic press.
  4. Use a hydraulic press in order to remove the wheel stud.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1242004  Size: SH
  1. Install the NEW wheel stud into the stud hole.
  2. Install 3 washers and a wheel nut onto the NEW wheel stud.
  3. Install 2 wheel nuts onto 2 studs.
  4. Use a pry bar on the 2 nuts in order to prevent the rear wheel bearing/hub/drum assembly from turning.
  5. Tighten the wheel nut in order to seat the NEW wheel stud.
  6. Remove the 3 wheel nuts and the 3 washers.
  7. Install the rear wheel bearing/hub/drum/studs assembly. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 43631 Ball Joint Remover

  1. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement.
  2. CAUTION:: If one stud is damaged, replace all the studs. A loose-running wheel may cause only one stud to break, but the other studs could have internal fatigue.   3. Install 2 wheel nuts onto 2 wheel studs.
  4. Use a pry bar on the 2 nuts in order to prevent the hub from turning.

  5. Object Number: 649304  Size: SH
  6. Use the J 43631 in order to remove the stud.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 65317  Size: SH
  1. Install the wheel stud (3) into the stud hole.
  2. Install 3 washers (1) and a wheel nut (2) onto the stud.
  3. Install 2 wheel nuts onto 2 studs.
  4. Use a pry bar on the 2 nuts in order to prevent the hub from turning.
  5. Tighten the wheel nut in order to seat the stud.
  6. Remove the 3 wheel nuts and the 3 washers.
  7. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement.
