Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  3. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
  4. Install the J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture.
  5. Remove the engine mount assembly. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  6. Remove the generator rear brace.
  7. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  8. Remove the power steering pump. Position the pump aside. Keep the lines attached. Refer to SECTION 3B.
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to SECTION 0A.
  10. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  11. Remove the crankshaft pulley and hub. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer and Hub Replacement .

  13. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
  14. Remove the engine front cover. If necessary, carefully use a rubber mallet to loosen the cover.
  15. Clean the sealing surface on the engine block.
  16. Clean the sealing surface on the engine front cover.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 9946  Size: SH
  1. Install the engine front cover gasket.
  2. Install the engine front cover and the bolts.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the crankshaft pulley and the crankshaft pulley hub. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer and Hub Replacement .
  5. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Install the power steering pump. Refer to SECTION 3B.
  8. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  9. Install the generator rear brace.
  10. Install the engine mount assembly. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  11. Remove the J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture.
  12. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
  13. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  14. Connect the negative battery cable.
