Caution:
Refer to
Brake Dust Caution
in the Preface section.
Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
Remove the rear brake drum. Refer to
Brake Drum Replacement
in Drum Brakes.
Using denatured alcohol, clean the rear brake assembly.
Using non-lubrucated, filtered air, dry the rear brake assembly.
Visually inspect the park brake hardware for the following:
•
Excessive corrosion
•
Excessive stretching
•
Broken components
•
Bent components
•
Twisting or binding
•
Missing components
If any of the conditions listed were found, the park brake hardware requires replacement.
Install the rear brake drum. Refer to
Brake Drum Replacement
in Drum Brakes.
Install the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
Lower the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
