Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1987  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle with safety stands. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Unload the torsion bar. Refer to Torsion Bar and Support Assembly Replacement .
  4. Remove teh steering linkage shield. Refer to Steering Linkage Shield Replacement in steering linkage.
  5. Remove the stabilizer shaft link from the lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .
  6. Remove the wheel drive shaft. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  7. Remove the lower control arm to the crossmember and the frame bracket mounting nuts and bolts.
  8. Remove the lower control arm from the frame.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1993  Size: SH

    Important: Install the front leg of the lower control arm into the crossmember before installing the rear leg into the frame bracket.

  1. Install the lower control arm to the crossmember and to the frame bracket.
  2. Install the lower control arm bolts in the direction shown.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the lower control arm mounting nuts.
  5. Tighten

        • Tighten the nuts with the lower control arm at the proper Z trim height. Refer to Trim Height Inspection in Suspension General Diagnosis.
        • Tighten the nuts and the bolts with the front suspension loaded.
        • Tighten the lower control arm mounting nuts to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).
  6. Install the wheel drive shaft. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  7. Install the stabilizer shaft link to the lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
  8. Install the steering linkage shield. Refer to Steering Linkage Shield Replacement in Steering Linkage.
  9. Load the torsion bar. Refer to Torsion Bar and Support Assembly Replacement .
  10. Install the tire and the wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Check the front wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment.
