Removal Procedure
  1. Raise the hood. Support the hood.

    2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  4. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.3L.
  5. Remove the front bumper impact bar. Refer to Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement in Bumpers.
  6. Remove the headlamp assemblies. Refer to Headlamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  7. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  8. Remove the steering linkage shield. Refer to Steering Linkage Shield Replacement in Steering Linkage--Non-Rack & Pinion.

  9. Disconnect the A/C evaporator line from the 2 brackets located at the bottom of the radiator support. Refer to Evaporator Tube Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  10. Disconnect the electrical connector to the SIR discriminating sensors.
  11. Remove the SIR discriminating sensors from the radiator support, if replacing the radiator support. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Front End Discriminating Sensor Replacement in SIR.
  12. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  13. Remove the bolts retaining the oil filter assembly to the radiator support. Refer to Remote Oil Filter Adapter Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  14. Support the oil filter assembly, and fluid cooler 2 inches below the radiator support, without disconnecting any hoses/lines.
  15. Disconnect the power steering hoses to the power steering cooler. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Cooler Replacement in Power Steering System.
  16. Remove the power steering cooler from the radiator support, if replacing the radiator support. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Cooler Replacement in Power Steering System.

  17. Remove the hood release cable from the support and the hood latch. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Replacement .
  18. Remove the hood latch support, if replacing the radiator support. Refer to Hood Latch Support Replacement .

  19. Remove the ground screw and the forward lamp harness from the left side of the radiator support.

  20. Remove the ground screw and the forward lamp harness from the right side of the radiator support.

    21. Object Number: 609021 Size: SH
  21. Remove the forward lamp harness from the clips.
  22. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  23. Tilt the radiator toward the engine.

  24. Remove the bolts that retain the air conditioning condenser to the radiator support. Refer to Condenser Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  25. Remove the bolts that retain the battery tray to the radiator support. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  26. Remove the radiator air intake baffle. Refer to Air Intake Baffle Replacement - Radiator .
  27. Remove the hood support rod. Refer to Hood Hold-Open Rod Replacement .

  28. Remove the bolts that retain the radiator support to the right and the left wheelhouse panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  29. Remove the bolts that retain the left fender to the wheel house panel. Refer to Front Fender Replacement - Left Side .

  30. Remove the bolts that retain the radiator support to the frame.
  31. Remove the bolts that retain the radiator support to the right and the left fender. Refer to Front Fender Replacement - Left Side , or to Front Fender Replacement - Right Side .
  32. Remove the radiator support frame mounts.
  33. Lightly push the left fender away from the vehicle in order to allow a clearance between the fender and the radiator support.
  34. Slide the left side of the support away from the vehicle.
  35. Remove the radiator support.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lightly push the fender away from the vehicle in order to allow a clearance between the fender and the radiator support.
  2. Install the radiator support into the frame.

    3. Slide the right side of the support onto the frame. Pivot the left side of the support into place.

  3. Install the radiator support frame mounts.

    4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the bolts through the frame mount.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 70 N·m (52 lb ft).

  5. Install the bolts that retain the left wheel house panel to the fender. Refer to Front Fender Replacement - Left Side .
  6. Install the bolts that retain the radiator support to the right and the left fender. Refer to Front Fender Replacement - Left Side , or to Front Fender Replacement - Right Side .

  7. Install the bolts that retain the radiator support to the right and the left wheel house panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  8. Install the hood support rod. Refer to Hood Hold-Open Rod Replacement .
  9. Install the radiator air intake baffle to the vehicle. Refer to Air Intake Baffle Replacement - Radiator .
  10. Install the bolts that retain the battery tray to the radiator support bolts. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  11. Install the bolts that retain the air conditioning condenser to the radiator support. Refer to Condenser Replacement in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
  12. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling.

    13. Object Number: 625671 Size: SH
  13. Install the ground screw and the forward lamp harness to the left side of the radiator support.

    14. Object Number: 625670 Size: SH
  14. Install the ground screw and the forward lamp harness to the right side of the radiator support.

  15. Install the forward lamp harness to the radiator support

    16. Object Number: 622891 Size: SH
  16. Install the latch support to the vehicle, if removed. Refer to Hood Latch Support Replacement .
  17. Install the hood release cable to the support and the hood latch. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Replacement .
  18. Install the power steering cooler to the radiator support, if removed. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Cooler Replacement in Power Steering System.
  19. Connect the power steering hoses to the power steering cooler. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Cooler Replacement in Power Steering System.
  20. Install the oil filter assembly to the radiator support. Refer to Remote Oil Filter Adapter Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  21. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  22. Install the SIR discriminating sensors to the radiator support, if removed. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Front End Discriminating Sensor Replacement in SIR.
  23. Connect the electrical connector to the SIR discriminating sensors.

    24. Object Number: 348253 Size: SH
  24. Connect the A/C evaporator line to the two brackets located at the bottom of the radiator support. Refer to Evaporator Tube Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  25. Install the steering linkage shield. Refer to Steering Linkage Shield Replacement in Steering Linkage--Non-Rack & Pinion.
  26. Lower the vehicle.
  27. Install the headlamp assemblies. Refer to Headlamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  28. Install the front bumper impact bar. Refer to Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement in Bumpers.
  29. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.3L.
  30. Install the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  31. Lower the hood.
  32. Inspect the hood release latch operation. Adjust the hood release latch operation, if necessary.
