Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 29714-A

  1. Raise the vehicle. Suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  2. Remove the 3-way catalytic converter (3800 VIN K). Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement
  3. Remove the oxidation catalytic converter (5.7L VIN P). Refer to Oxidation Catalytic Converter in Engine Exhaust.
  4. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft.
  5. Remove the rear axle torque arm. Refer to Torque Arm Replacement in Rear Suspension.
  6. Support the automatic transmission with a transmission stand.
  7. Remove the transmission support. Refer to Body Dimensions and Underbody.
  8. Remove the catalytic converter heat shield. Refer to Converter Heat Shield
  9. Lower the automatic transmission.

  11. Remove the two automatic transmission oil pan bolts from below the servo cover.
  12. Install the J 29714-A on the oil pan rail.
  13. Reinstall the automatic transmission oil pan bolts.

  14. Object Number: 5429  Size: SH
  15. Depress the servo cover. Remove the retaining ring.
  16. Remove theJ 29714-A
  17. Remove the servo cover. If unable to remove by hand, use slip joint pliers. The O-ring seal may remain in the automatic transmission case.
  18. Remove the 2-4 band servo.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 5429  Size: SH
  1. Install the 2-4 band servo.
  2. Install the servo cover. Replace the O-ring seal on the servo cover.
  3. Install J 29714-A on the oil pan rail.
  4. Depress the servo cover.
  5. Install the retaining ring.

  6. Object Number: 14478  Size: SH
  7. Remove the J 29714-A
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the automatic transmission oil pan bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Raise the automatic transmission.
  10. Install the catalytic converter heat shield. Refer to Converter Heat Shield
  11. Install the transmission support. Refer to Body Dimensions and Underbody.
  12. Remove the support from the automatic transmission.
  13. Install the rear axle torque arm. Refer to Torque Arm Replacement in Rear Suspension.
  14. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft.
  15. Install the 3-way catalytic converter (3800 VIN K). Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement
  16. Install the oxidation catalytic converter (5.7L VIN P). Refer to Oxidation Catalytic Converter
  17. Lower the vehicle.
