Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise the vehicle. Suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 165290  Size: SH
  4. Unsnap the range selector lever cable from the range selector lever on the transmission.

  5. Object Number: 37529  Size: SH
  6. Remove the retainer and the range selector lever cable from the cable bracket.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Remove the front floor console trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.

  9. Object Number: 38098  Size: SH
  10. Remove the range selector lever cable from the automatic transmission control.

  11. Object Number: 38101  Size: SH
  12. Remove the retainer and the cable grommet from the base of the automatic transmission control.
  13. Pull the cable through the hole in the front compartment floor pan.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 38101  Size: SH
  1. Install the cable grommet to the base of the automatic transmission control.
  2. Feed the cable through the hole in the front compartment floor pan.

  3. Object Number: 38098  Size: SH
  4. Install the range selector lever cable to the automatic transmission control.
  5. Install the front floor console trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
  6. Important: The automatic transmission control must remain in the (N) Neutral position until the cable installation is complete.

  7. Place the automatic transmission control in (N) Neutral.
  8. Raise the vehicle. Suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.

  9. Object Number: 37529  Size: SH
  10. Install the range selector lever cable to the cable bracket. Ensure that the adjustment button is unlocked.
  11. Place the range selector lever in the (N) Neutral position. Rotate the lever counterclockwise from (P) Park through (R) Reverse.

  12. Object Number: 165290  Size: SH
  13. Install the range selector lever cable to the range selector lever.
  14. Install the lock adjustment button on the cable to the range selector bracket. Turn the lock adjustment button counterclockwise.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Connect the negative battery cable.
  17. Tighten
    Negative battery cable to 15 N·m(11 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
