Adjustment Procedure

Refer to Bulletin.

  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2. Shift the transmission into neutral.
  3. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  4. Adjust the negative battery cable.
  5. Adjust the Transmission Control Lever to the manual shaft nut.
  6. Adjust the Transmission Control Lever from the manual shaft.
  7. Let the shift cable and control lever drop out of the way.

  8. Loosen a switch to the transmission bolts.
  9. Slide a 3/32 drill bit into the slot located in the switch housing at the 10 o'clock position.
  10. Rotate the switch assembly in order to align the switch housing to the inner switch.
  11. The slot in the housing and inner switch should be aligned with the drill bit.

  12. Adjust the switch to the transmission bolts.
  13. Tighten
Tighten the switch to the transmission bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Remove the drill bit from the switch housing and inner switch.
  2. Adjust the transmission control lever to the manual shaft.
  3. Install the transmission control lever to the manual shaft nut.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the control lever nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Install the negative battery cable.
  7. Check the switch for proper operation.
  8. The engine must start in the PARK or NEUTRAL positions only.
