    Important: Check the generator rotor shaft drive end nut. If it is loose, tighten the nut to 100 N·m (75 lb ft). Inspect the generator pulley for damage.

  1. Disconnect the generator connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch ON.

Is the Volts or Check Gauge indicator ON?

Disconnect connnector C205.

Is the Volts or Check Gauge indicator OFF?

Go to Step 6

  1. Remove the instrument cluster and disconnect the instrument cluster connecter C2 (Buick) or C1 (Chev).
  2. Connect a DVM from the instrument cluster connector C2 (Buick) or C1 (Chev) CKT25 to ground.
  3. Measure the resistance.

Is the ground less than infinite?

Go to Step 4

Repair the short to ground in CKT25.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Replace or repair the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .

Repair the short to ground in CKT25 between the generator and connector C205.

Service the instrument cluster.
