GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

For a view of the oil flow diagrams, refer to the 1996 TURM Manual.

As the vehicle speed and the governor pressure increase, the force of governor oil acts on the 1-2 shift valve. This force overcomes the pressure of shift TV oil and the force of the 1-2 TV spring. The 1-2 valve opens and drive oil enters the second oil passage. This oil is called Second oil.

Second oil from the 1-2 shift valve is directed to the following components:

    • The intermediate servo
    • The 1-2 accumulator piston

Basic Control

Second oil from the 1-2 shift valve is directed to the intermediate servo in order to apply the intermediate band. At the same time, Second oil moves the 1-2 accumulator piston against 1-2 accumulator pressure and the accumulator spring. This maintains a controlled build-up of pressure on the intermediate servo during the 1-2 shift for a smooth band apply.

Summary

The forward clutch and the intermediate band are applied; the transmission is in Drive (D) Range - Second Gear.
