Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.

- Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle
Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
- Remove the transmission oil pan. Refer to
Oil Pan Replacement
.
- Remove the transmission oil filter assembly. Refer to
Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter and Seal Replacement
.
- Remove the four forward clutch and the
lo and reverse band oil bolts that attach the oil feed pipe assembly to the
transmission.
- Remove the lo and the reverse band oil
pipe assembly.
- Remove the eight lo and the reverse band oil pipe assembly seals.
- Inspect the oil feed pipes for plugged passages, bent pipes, or
cracks.
- Check the oil feed pipe seal rings. Verify the proper location
of the seal rings. Replace the seal rings if these are cut, swelled or damaged.
Installation Procedure
- Install the eight lo and the reverse
band oil pipe assembly seals.
- Install the lo and the reverse band oil feed pipe assembly onto
the transmission.
- Hand start the four forward clutch and
the lo and the reverse band oil bolts that attach the oil feed pipe assembly
to the transmission.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the transmission oil filter assembly. Refer to
Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter and Seal Replacement
.
- Install the transmission oil pan and gasket. Refer to
Oil Pan Replacement
.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Refill the transmission to the proper level.
