Press down the brake pedal.

Do all of the stoplamps illuminate?

Is only one lamp inoperative?

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the inoperative stoplamp.
  2. Probe the stoplamp supply voltage circuit of the inoperative lamp with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  3. Press down the brake pedal.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 16

Are all of the stoplamps, including the high mounted stoplamps, inoperative?

Go to Step 6

  1. Disconnect the brake switch.
  2. Probe the battery positive voltage circuit of the brake switch with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Connect a 20 amp fused jumper wire between the battery positive voltage circuit of the brake switch and the stoplamp supply voltage circuit.

Do the stoplamps illuminate?

Are the high mounted stoplamps inoperative?

Test the stoplamp supply voltage circuit of the high mounted stoplamps for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the high mounted stoplamps for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for an open or high resistance in the stoplamp supply voltage circuit between splice 206 and the turn/hazard-headlamp switch assembly. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
