Do any indicators illuminate when the chime sounds?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition.
  3. Turn the headlamp switch to OFF.
  4. Open the driver's door.

Does the chime sound?

Go to Step 4

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Disconnect the BCM connector C1.
  2. Turn ON the ignition.

Does the chime sound?

Go to Step 16

  1. Reconnect the BCM connector C1.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Park Lamp Input in the BCM Lamp Status data list.

Does the Park Lamp Input parameter display Off?

Go to Step 6

  1. Close the driver's door.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Driver Door Ajar Sw. parameter in the BCM data list.

Does the parameter display Off?

Go to Step 8

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the BCM connector C2.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the park lamp switch on input circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition.
  3. Disconnect the BCM connector C3.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the key in ignition signal circuit and battery positive voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test the park lamp switch on input circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the key in ignition signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the headlamp switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the ignition key alarm switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the headlamp switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Standard or Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.

Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Standard or Ignition Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.

Important: Program the replacement BCM.

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.
