Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement Oldsmobile
Removal Procedure
- Remove the cargo net and the retainers.
- Pull back the rear compartment trim at the tail lamps in order
to expose the filler panel nut and inside fascia bolts.
- Remove the filler panel nut from inside the rear compartment.
- Remove the inside rear bumper fascia bolts from inside the rear
compartment.
- Remove the bolts at the front support bracket (inside the wheel
well).
- Remove the license plate lamp. Refer to
Rear License Lamp Replacement
in Lighting Systems.
- Remove the push-in retainers from the upper and lower edge of
the rear bumper fascia.
- Remove the rear bumper fascia from the vehicle.
- Remove the
screws from the rear support bracket (5).
- Remove the push-in retainer from the support bracket.
- Remove the rear support bracket from the rear bumper fascia.
- Lift up to remove the reinforcement bracket from the filler panel.
Installation Procedure
- Position the rear support
bracket (5) to the rear bumper fascia (3).
- Install the push-in retainer to the rear support bracket.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the rear
support bracket screws.
Tighten
Tighten the rear support bracket screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
- Install the reinforcement bracket to the filler panel.
- Position the rear bumper fascia to the vehicle.
- Install the push-in retainers to the top of the rear fascia.
- Install the rear support bracket bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the rear support bracket bolts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
- Install the filler panel nut inside the rear compartment.
Tighten
Tighten the filler panel nut to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
- Install the inside fascia bolts inside the rear compartment.
Tighten
Tighten the inside rear bumper fascia bolts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
- Install the license plate lamp. Refer to
Rear License Lamp Replacement
in Lighting Systems.
- Install the push-in retainers at the bottom of the rear bumper
fascia.
- Reposition the rear compartment trim to the original position.
- Install the cargo net and retainers.
Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement Pontiac
Removal Procedure
- Remove the cargo net and
the retainers.
- Pull back the rear compartment trim at the tail lamps in order
to expose the filler panel nut and inside fascia bolts.
- Remove the filler panel nut (1) from inside the rear compartment.
- Remove the inside rear bumper fascia bolts (2) from inside the
rear compartment.
- Remove the bolts at the front support bracket (3) (inside the
wheel well).
- Remove the license plate lamp. Refer to
Rear License Lamp Replacement
in Lighting Systems.
- Remove the push-in retainers
from the upper and lower edge of the rear bumper fascia.
- Remove the rear bumper fascia from the vehicle.
- Remove the backup lamps. Refer to
Backup Lamp Replacement
.
- Remove the screws from
the rear support bracket (5).
- Remove the push-in retainer from the rear support bracket.
- Remove the rear support bracket from the rear bumper fascia.
Installation Procedure
- Install the backup lamps. Refer to
Backup Lamp Replacement
.
- Position the rear support
bracket (5) to the rear bumper fascia (3).
- Install the push-in retainer to the rear support bracket.

Tighten
Tighten the rear support bracket screws to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).
- Position the rear bumper
fascia to the vehicle.
- Install the push-in retainers to the top of the rear fascia.
- Install the rear support bracket bolts (3).
Tighten
Tighten the rear support bracket bolts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
- Connect the electrical connector to the backup lamps.
- Install the inside rear bumper fascia bolts (2) inside the rear
compartment.
Tighten
Tighten the inside rear bumpers fascia bolts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
- Install the push-in retainers at the bottom of the rear bumper
fascia.
- Install the license plate lamp. Refer to
Rear License Lamp Replacement
in Lighting Systems.
- Reposition the rear compartment trim to the original position.
- Install the cargo net and retainers.
