J 21854-01 Pivot Pin Remover

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 372973  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Remove the lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  3. Remove the multifunction switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .
  4. Remove the windshield wiper and washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  5. Remove the lock housing assembly. Refer to Steering Column Upper Housing Replacement .
  6. Remove the ignition switch assembly. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  7. Remove the tilt spring. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Spring Replacement .
  8. Remove the lower shaft components. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket Replacement .
  9. Remove the 2 pivot pins using J 21854-01 .

  11. Remove the bearing and housing assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 372976  Size: SH

    Important: Once the steering column support and the pivot pins have been staked 3 times, replace the steering column support.

  1. Install the bearing and housing assembly.

  2. Object Number: 372978  Size: SH
  3. Lubricate the pivot pins with GM P/N 12346293 (Canadian P/N 992723).
  4. Install the 2 pivot pins into the steering column support assembly.
  5. Stake the pivot pins in 3 locations.
  6. Install the lower shaft components. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket Replacement .
  7. Install the tilt spring only. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Spring Replacement .
  8. Install the Ignition switch assembly only. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  9. Install the lock housing assembly. Refer to Steering Column Upper Housing Replacement .
  10. Install the windshield wiper and washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  11. Install the multifunction switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .
  12. Install the lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  13. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
