    • J 41240-5A Fan Clutch Wrench

Removal Procedure

Caution: Do not use or attempt to repair a damaged cooling fan assembly. Replace damaged fans with new assemblies. An unbalanced cooling fan could fly apart causing personal injury and property damage.

  1. Remove the fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
  2. Install theJ 41240 and J 41240-5A .

  3. Object Number: 746714  Size: SH
  4. Remove the fan blade and clutch.

  5. Object Number: 746715  Size: SH
  6. Lay the fan blade and clutch face down on a workbench.
  7. Remove the fan clutch bolts from the rear of the fan blade.
  8. Separate the fan clutch from the fan blade.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the fan onto the fan clutch.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the fan clutch bolts to the rear of the fan blade.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the fan clutch bolts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

  5. Install the fan blade and clutch.

  6. Object Number: 362333  Size: SH
  7. Install the J 41240 and J 41240-5A .
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the fan clutch nut to 59 N·m (43 lb ft).

  9. Install the fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
