Operate the lumbar system.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Disconnect the inoperative lumbar switch.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit at the inoperative lumbar switch harness connector and good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

  1. Reconnect the lumbar switch.
  2. Disconnect the inoperative lumbar pump.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the lumbar pump control circuit and a good ground.
  4. Operate the lumbar switch.

Did the test lamp illuminate when the lumbar switch was activated?

Go to Step 5

  1. Disconnect the inoperative lumbar pump.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the lumbar pump control circuit and the ground circuit at the lumbar pump connector.
  3. Operate the lumbar switch.

Did the test lamp illuminate when the lumbar switch was activated?

Test the lumbar pump control circuit for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the inoperative lumbar switch connector. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the inoperative lumbar pump connector. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or short to ground in the battery positive voltage circuit for the inoperative lumbar switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open in the ground circuit for the inoperative lumbar pump. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the inoperative lumbar switch. Refer to Lumbar Switch Replacement .

  1. Reconnect any disconnected components.
