J 42371 Hydraulic Clutch Line Separator

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 102888  Size: SH
  1. Shift the transmission into 3rd or 4th gear.
  2. Remove the shift lever assembly. Refer to Shift Lever Assembly Replacement .
  3. Drain the transmission fluid.
  4. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  5. Using J 42371 , push back on the white plastic sleeve on the quick connect in order to separate the hydraulic clutch line from the clutch actuator quick connect.

  7. Disconnect the following engine wiring harness electrical connectors:
  8. • Backup lamp switch (1)
    • Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) (3)
    • Oxygen sensor (4)
  9. Remove the oxygen sensor (2) from the transmission bracket.
  10. Remove the engine harness clips from the fuel feed/return line clip/bracket.
  11. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  12. Support the transmission using a suitable transmission jack.
  13. Remove the transmission support. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement in Frame and Underbody.

  15. Disconnect the vent hose from the transmission.
  16. Remove the vent hose clip from the clutch housing.

  17. Object Number: 775391  Size: SH
  18. Remove the transmission to clutch housing bolts.
  19. Remove the transmission from the clutch housing.

  20. Object Number: 775394  Size: SH
  21. If required, remove the clutch housing bolts/studs.
  22. If required, remove the clutch housing.

Installation Procedure

  1. If removed, position the clutch housing.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. If removed, install the clutch housing bolts/studs.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the clutch housing bolts/studs to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Position the transmission to the clutch housing.
  6. Install the transmission to clutch housing bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the transmission to clutch housing bolts to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  8. Install the vent hose clip to the clutch housing.
  9. Connect the vent hose from the transmission.
  10. Install the transmission support. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
  11. Remove the transmission jack.
  12. Install the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  14. Install the engine harness clips to the fuel feed/return line clip/bracket.
  15. Install the oxygen sensor (2) to the transmission bracket.
  16. Connect the following engine wiring harness electrical connectors:
  17. • Backup lamp switch (1)
    • VSS (3)
    • Oxygen sensor (4)

    Important: DO NOT rely on an audible click or a visual verification on the clutch hydraulic hose quick connect fitting connection.

  18. Connect the clutch actuator cylinder hose to the clutch master cylinder hose.
  19. Push together the clutch hydraulic hose quick connect fittings, then pull back on the fittings to verify engagement.
  20. Check the clutch hydraulic hose for kinks or twists.
  21. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  22. Fill the transmission fluid.
  23. Install the shift lever assembly. Refer to Shift Lever Assembly Replacement .
  24. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding in Clutch.
