Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission or in Manual Transmission.
  2. Remove the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement .
  3. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 11479  Size: SH
  5. Remove the retainer screws and nuts.
  6. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer.
  7. Remove the gasket.
  8. Clean the gasket surfaces on the block and the seal retainer.

Installation Procedure

Whenever the seal retainer is removed, a new retainer gasket and crankshaft rear oil seal must be installed.

  1. Install the gasket to the block. Do not use sealant to hold the gasket in place.
  2. Install the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer.
  3. Install the screws and nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws and nuts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  6. Install the crankshaft rear oil seal. Refer to Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal and Housing Replacement .
  7. Install the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement .
  8. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission or in Manual Transmission.
